  1. President Harry S Truman did not have a VP from 04,12.1945-01.19.1949. He picked Alben William Barkley to be his running mate as a result of President Truman winning the 1948 Presidential Election Barkley became the 35th US VP (the last to be born in the 19th Century [11.24.1877] and the oldest VP at the time of hisinaugurationn [71 yrs 1 mth 3 weeks 6 days old]and the only VP to be married in his period of office [1949 for second time married to 1st wife for 44 yrs she died of cancer in 1947] ). He served from 01.20.1949-01.20.1953.

    In 1954 Barkley came out of retirement and returned to Washington DC as the junior Senator from Kentucky.(For a junior he had alot of experience US Congress 1913-1927 US Senate 1927-1949 [Senate Majority Leader 1937-1946] Vice Pres 1949-1952),

    On 04.30.1956 he gave the keynote political address to a mock Democratic National Convention at Washington & Lee University at Lexington Virginia. Before a capacity crowd of 1200 in the university gym Barkley stated that he had no further political ambition he spoke the following phrase "I'm glad to sit in the back row. I would rather be a servant in the house of the Lord then to sit in the seats of the mighty" Then with the sound of the chapping and cheering crowd Barkley slumped to the ground dead of a heart attack aged 78 yrs 5 mths and 6 days old.
