The full answer (Thanks Wikipedia!) is Leonard James Callaghan, born 27 March 1912, entered Parliament as MP for Cardiff South 26 July 1945, succeeded Harold Wilson 5 April 1976, defeated by Margaret Thatcher 4 May 1979, resigned as Labour leader in September 1980 (left office 10 November), left Parliament 11 June 1987, died 26 March 2005, 11 days after the death of his wife Audrey (15 March).

    Their daughter Margaret is now Baroness Jay of Paddington.
