  1. Already been said, Ali was in boxing when it was an era of legends. Tyson did WONDERS for the sport as it was sagging and dying before Kid Dynamite got up in the mix!

Perhaps the other people need to re-read the question. He wasn't asking who was the better boxer, or who was better for the sport. He is asking who was a better BOOST for the sport, hence bringing popularity to it, reviving it, etc.

  2. Ali.Tyson was a really great fighter and all but he disgraced all of boxing by beating his wife and going to jail.

  3. Ali....Mike really f*cked things up for his rep when he bit that dude

  4. Ali...

EDIT: I did read the question!!!  I don't think Tyson was a better boost, he turned people off, he had to much drama...so like I said, Ali was a better boost for boxing!!!

Ali was a great boxer and had a great show...Float like a butterfly sting like a bee!!!

  5. Ali.

Ali did fight in an era of legends, or near-legends, and he beat them all when he was in his prime.   He fought the best and all of his big fights were real contests.  In many of his fights the question was "Can this guy beat Ali?'  In most of Tyson's fights the question was "How long is this guy going to last?"  Except for Holyfield, there were no prime legends in Tyson's era, and he beat most of his opponents so quickly that the big hotels became reluctant to pay site fees for his fights.

I don't take your question to be about who was the better fighter, but about who provided boxing with the bigger boost.  But, IMO, that has to cover most or all of the "booster's" career.  Tyson burst on the scene and created a lot of excitement, but he disgraced the sport when he raped Desiree Washington and then bit off part of Holyfield's ear.  Some called for boxing to be banned because of Tyson.

Would boxing be better off today if Tyson had never come along?  Possibly (although I don't think so).  Would boxing be better off if Ali had never come along?  No way!

  6. Tyson.  Ali was huge back in the day, but that was an era of legends.  Tyson kept the sport alive and drew in new fans, and while he was a basket case, his contributions are unquestioned.

  7. Tyson screwed up the division.  After Ali there were great champions including Foreman at 45 getting another title.

After Tyson's disgraceful fall from the top, the heavyweight division has sucked.

The division thrived after Ali, and it sagged after Tyson.  Ali did much more for the sport than Tyson could ever hope to do.

  8. Ali definatly
