I was pulling for Big to win and it was sad to see it sort of fold up and put on the brakes. Too bad.

  1. I was pulling for him, too. I am disappointed and *very* sad.

    Klea :'(

  2. I'm definately not.  Big Brown is not a phenomenal horse and that he is just the best out of a poor group of horses and I may add a poor group of people. I mean really, it is no great wonder to the rest of the horse community (the few that aren't involved in racing and have brains) why Big Brown and other race horses have bad feet. These two and three year old horses aren't meant to run this hard and encounter this much stress at such a young age. Horses don't fully mature till they are five. It's like having a thirteen year old compete in the Olympics. Its not right and the child will probably have som eosrt of injury immediately or later on in life. And when they breed these unsound horses to each other they produce more horses that are set up for lameness (in there hooves). It just so happened that Big Brown happened to get a dose of genetics. Racing horses at such a young age is cruel, it ruins the horses and breaks down their legs literally so that they live in pain for the rest of their lives, and no amount of shoeing can help them. I think that Big Brown's owners got a taste of their own medicine, racing a horse that was too young and he finally wore out. Take that for not properly taking care of you horse and take that the rest of all horse racing fans and all of the people out their that still think horse racing is the 'sport of kings'. More like 'sport of abuse' if you ask me.

'LZ, wow, you wrote a mouthfull, are you mad at the industry? Why?'

Answer: Yes, I am mad, furious, and apalled at the industry beacuse it is plainly abusive and cruel. Why? The facts point to it and because as a person who owns an Appendix Quarter Horse (Thoroughbred x QH) and firsthandly experiences the soundness issues a Thoroughbred has, and also encountering and riding many off the track thoroughbreds I can tell you that many of them are ruined for life. They have bad manners, bad feet, and unless you adopt them early on they are usually worth nothing. How can you do that to a horse. As a person who shows in jumping I can tell how strenuous the preparation is to make sure the horse does not injure itself. We wrap their legs (for support, much like a human wrapping their legs or like a knee brace for humans) and have them shod regularly. We sometimes use bell boots to protect their hooves and never show them if they are not behaving 'right'. Do they do any of this in horse racing, do you see any of the horses wearing 'boots' to protet their legs. NO!!! Anyone can see this but they seemingly ignore it for the money. It is wrong. End of story.

  3. As soon as the trainers start running their mouth like his did, it's inevitable.  No class....... no chance.  Next time keep your mouth shut and let the horse do the talking!

  4. I'm sooo happy he lost.  He represents everything that is wrong with racing.  From the group of owners who treat him more as a business than a horse, to the cocky trainer who trash talked about how weak the rest of the field was.  Even the way his handlers were pushing the camera men out of the way and the way to the track.  Bad racing karma and the racing gods didn't shine for them.  Good ridance.

  5. Im sad for the horse not for the trainer. Big Brown is an amazing horse who deserved to win he came a long way.
