  2. According to Bhagwat Puran, Kamsa was really the son of a Rakshasa named 'Kalnemi'.

Kalnemi took the form of King Ugrasen in his absence and then through his physical union with Ugrasen's wife Padmavati, Kamsa was born.

No one came to know about this and Kamsa was always known as Ugrasen's son. Kamsa imprisoned Ugrasen and sat on the throne of Mathura himself. When Krishna killed Kamsa, he freed Ugrasen and made him the king once again.
