  1. Tyson was the most popular boxer since Ali,he will be remembered for generations!Blog have you seen Toughguy, your both the greatest men to ever have lived and so are your many other personalities,ALL HAIL BLOGBABBA2!!

  2. Im from Europe, and everybody over there knew Tyson as the best boxer at the time, dont get me wrong Ali was pretty famous to but the time Tyson fought was when boxin grew more as of international sport everywhere around the world, when Ali fought it was still mostly american sport, de la hoya dont even compare with tysons m everybody knows Tyson even outside the universem even soccer only countries

  3. The heavyweights are usually more popular because they attract the nonboxing fans as everyone wants to see the big heavyweight knockouts. Tyson had his own video game Punch Out which apealed to the younger generation and he also got involved in professional wrestling for a short stint culminating at a Wrestlemania where he refereed the main event. De La Hoya was and is more respected as a businessman, athlete, good sportsman and skilled boxer but Tyson was more popular whether it was for his wild antics criminal outside the ring behavior, outragious interviews or spectacular knockouts. De La Hoya was wiser and managed his money well investing it and staying out of trouble but Tyson had a high profile celebrity marriage/divorce and was in and out of the papers for unpredictable rants and fights. His popularity is probably second only to Muhammed Ali.

  4. Well in his prime is really questionable b/c oscar is probably one of the most popular boxers ever.  He might be more popular now because hes one of the most likable fighters and his style is now crowd pleasing.   He has fought every big fighter in or around his weight class.  He is a star and its a shame were losing him.  Tyson as a contender he was very popular out of new york his style was a wish for all boxing fans.  He was a heavyweight with devastating power, fast hands, and a crowd pleasing style.  But as a champion he was not as popular.  But still as a contender and a champion i dont think he was as popular as oscar de la hoya now, let alone when he was in his prime.

  5. I would have to say Mike Tyson, whether it was in a bad or good way. This was a man who was impressing fans with his incredible knockouts and cleaning out the division.... a division that is suppose to be the mecca of the sport. Even during Tyson's comeback after prison, people were still holding onto hopes of Tyson being back to his old self. Also, it seemed that Tyson's every single move was covered by media.

Some may probably say that Oscar is more popular, because of the money and crowd he draws to his fights. But I think if Tyson had stayed on a clear path in and out the ring, he could have easily generated the same kind of draw, as well.

Once again, I'd have to go with Tyson.

  6. Popurality? Money and looks- Oscar. Image- Tyson. I vote for Tyson. Tyson is Tyson, When you say boxing what comes first on your mind? Tyson right? But now it's gonna be Pacqiao. http://summer-olympics-updates.blogspot....

  7. both overrated

  8. oscar was always but mike had his supporters for a shorter time was the best then but paled fast.

  9. Mike was clearly more dominate as a boxer, but popularity is a relative thing.  It's pretty clear Oscar's popularity transcends boxing, he is far and away more attractive to the female audience, Tyson could never have gotten away with paper hearts dropping from the ceiling like Oscar did in the Quartey fight, the images are polar opposites.  According to my wife, sisters, daughters and even my female boss, Oscar is far and away more popular than Mike.  That said, I still got to give Mike the edge, when Douglas KOed Tyson, it was the biggest upset since Ali beat Liston the first time, and even a bigger upset than Ali over Forman.

As disgusting as I find Tyson, he was bigger than Oscar during his prime.  Today Mike would be lucky to get to work out in one of Oscar's gyms, but back in the day, Mike was heavyweight boxing.  Oscar never dominated any of his divisions like Mike did the Heavyweights.
