  1. Hmmm I dunno.... I know this doesn't sound right... but Blundell was the equivalent of Mark Webber today... he scored around the same points every year (10-ish) and has bagged a few podiums out of relatively competitive machinery...

Panis... I would say was more average than Blundell.... Apart from the first part of 1997 when he looked like he might break into the top group of drivers.... his win was a fluke and he never came near repeating it.... in cars of equal competitiveness to Blundell I would say he probably did worse... often getting stuck in the midfield anonymity...

  2. If you can equate it to crashes, then they were both pretty spectacular!

  3. Woah...what?!!? What are you lot talking about? Blundell was far more average than Panis. Olivier won the 96 monaco race in a very poor car. Fair enough only 4 cars finished but he held it together and he was the one who kept it together. In 1997 he was second in the championship before his crash in a Prost!! He was also running second in the race that day and would have probably finished in the top 5 in the championship.

In 2001 Panis was comfortably quicker than Jacques Villeneuve but he had much worse luck. I have the season review at home and Panis is clearly the quicker driver throughout the season but retirements and other circumstances made villeneuve look far more comfortable than he was that year. Panis outqualified him in half of his races and lets not forget Jacques was a world champion.

In the two seasons they raced against each other Panis finished comfortably ahead of blundell despite more retirements. And in 1995 he was in far inferior equipment.

Now i never saw blundell achieve anything like that against Mika Hakkinen.

  4. Panis was the better driver, faster, more consistent and since you cared to ask this question during the Monaco GP weekend, Panis has won in Monaco.

He seemed to have a bit more brain too!
