Who was more powerful? titans or gods?

okay, so my friend and i are arguing over who was higher. was it the titans or the gods [roman and greek mythology].

Depends. As you probably know, the titans Kronus and Gaia birthed Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and Hera, among many others, and the Gods ended up banishing the Titans anyways. Let's compare: Who's more powerful, a gorilla or a human? The human is dominant because it outsmarted the brute strength of the gorilla, but the gorilla is stronger. The titan is probably more powerful, but the gods were victorious overall because they won with tactics. so this question raises another: What is the meaning of power?

The Titans were gods, that were overthrown by the Olympians - also gods.

The Titans WERE gods: they were the parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins of the Olympian gods, who were Zeus and his siblings and children.  (Most of the goddesses whom Zeus had affairs with and who weren't his sisters were his Titan cousins.)  Clearly the Olympians were more powerful, since they defeated the Titans.  As for which ones were socially superior, I suppose one would have to say that the Titans deserved more respect, since most of them were of an older generation, but the Olympians certainly didn't show them much!

well, the titans were the original great powerful entities, but the gods beat them. i guess "socially" they would think that they are the kings while the titans are inferior, and vice versa. if the titans were released, it would happen again, and they simply would not be able to live together without one side falling. i think the titans have the "mightiness", that ancient power and strength, kind of like man against ant, but the gods have special abilities, and a lot of the credit of the gods winning the battle goes to pan, who created panic in the titans. pan can create any feeling, sexual, hysterical, anything, and his specialty is panic.
