  1. There are birds of Asia, that cleanse themselves of mites,by 'dancing' in the ashes of fires, leading to the Phoenix myth.

  2. A city in Arizona?

  3. A phoenix is a mythical bird with a tail of beautiful gold and red plumage (or purple and blue, by some sources [1]). It has a 1,000 year life-cycle, and near the end the phoenix builds itself a nest of cinnamon twigs that it then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix or phoenix egg arises. The new phoenix is destined to live, usually, as long as the old one. In some stories, the new phoenix embalms the ashes of the old phoenix in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egypt city of Heliopolis (sun city in Greek). The bird was also said to regenerate when hurt or wounded by a foe, thus being almost immortal and invincible &mdash it is also said that it can heal a person with a tear from its eyes and give him/her temporary immortality; a symbol of fire and divinity.[2]

  4. Yes Europa was the daughter of a bird.  This transcension of species is common in multi-theistic mythologies.

  5. This site might be of some help. www.theoi.com/Thaumasios/phoinix.html. It's all greek to me.

  6. Dumbledores Bird

  7. A Phoenix is a fire bird.  It bursts into flames and then rises from its ashes.  It is also a city and a WWE wrestler.  Beth Phoenix the glamazon, and my fave diva.

  8. Your bird was on TV recently. The eggs are laid in very hot earth and the fly from that 'nest'.

  9. The  Phoenix in this case was a man and he was the tutor of Achilles from the Ancient Greek story of  The Iliad. Some versions of Greek Myth say he was Europa's Father, some say he was her brother.

  10. There is a confusion here between "A phoenix" and a person called "Phoenix".

A Phoenix is a fablous arabian bird that liked to immolatte itself...

"Phoenix" is a name of a number of people in greek myth,

Namely a king of the Dolopians and son of Amyntor and Cleobule, there was also Phoenix son of Adonis and Alphesiboea and of course Phoenix son of Agenor and TelephassaIn who was the brother of Europa (or some say her father which is a seperate account with a different family tree.)

MrSilly, You keep adding to your question and thus creating more questions and thus making it impossible to answer your "question", this isn't a discussion forum!

The only connection between Phoenix and a bird is that in "some" accounts, Phoenix's sister Europa was carried off by Zeus and raped while Zeus was in the form of an Eagle.

Please repost when you have "A" question rather than a long discussion about the quirks of alternate mythologies.

In no myths could I find that Phoenix was a bird...
