  1. That's awesome. I just get thrilled seeing the rings of Saturn. The other day, I got a clear shot of Jupiter, with its stripes and 4 of its moons. It's hard to catch anything that's not brighter than Arcturus here in Tulsa. However, I will be going to Arkansas to go camping and should get a clearer shot.

  2. Congrats on the nice scope - get a better finder, trust me, it's worth it!

Align it on the moon first, since that's the easiest thing to find without a finder.  Center it well then do the same thing with a bright planet like Jupiter.  Once you get it aligned properly, finding DSOs should be a snap and much less aggravating.  My first DSO: M42 Great Nebula in Orion with a rinky-dink 2- 1/4" scope when I was nine.  I got so into the hobby I ground my own 8 inch mirror with a buddy when I was sixteen.  I still use that scope - 35 years later.  People that have never looked through a good telescope won't understand your excitement, but I do.  It's a great hobby - clear skies, brother!

  3. That's fantastic!!!

I'm jealous. I built a telescope from scratch when I was a kid, but the chromatic aberration was so bad I could barely make out the moon.

  4. That is absolutely amazing. I had a telescope, and someone broke in my house and stole it. I got it from my grandfather when I was a little girl and I remember the first time I saw Mars. I was about 7 years old and I don't think I could really comprehend at time time what I was seeing.I thought you could fly there with an airplane. Seriously haha. I went to the library and checked out every book they had on the planet, and some of the books were even mentioning the possibility of life forms. From then on I drew pictures of "the marsy's" (what I named the aliens lol) and it was all I could talk about, until my grandpa found Saturn haha.Ever since then, I have been determined to by another telescope, but gollie are they pricey!

  5. I'm more a binocular person, so the double cluster in Perseus, the first time I saw it, amazed me. I've got a 16 x 80 that really picks up a lot of stuff if I get far enough away from the city.  With the monopod it's not that hard to use.  I've also seen two comets with it but those aren't really deep sky objects.  I had a telescope once, but not a 10 inch honker like yours.
