Please do not tell me it was the queen from shakespears time as she was queen elisabeth of england and not the uk and commonwealth which did not exist in her time.

I wish to know who was the first queen elisabeth of the united kingdoms of scotland, england and wales and of the commonwealth

  1. Queen Elizabeth the first is called that because she is the first queen of England.  Our Current queen is the Second Queen Elizabeth of England.

The titular references to empire (Elizabeth the first) and commonwealth (Elizabeth the second) are secondary to that of her role of the Queen of England.

Elizabeth the second should not be called Elizabeth the first because she is the first queen Elizabeth of the commonwealth - the commonwealth is a modern and politically appropriate term for what remains of the empire.

The titles are largely ceremonial and indicative - Our queen is also Defender of the Faith.  A catholic honour bestowedon Henry the 8th by the Pope prior to Henry's being excommunicated for leaving the church and marrying Anne Boleyn.  Our queen is the head of the Church of England (a nice way of saying neither catholic nor protestant).  She holds a cathlic title purely by decree of parliament - much like all her other titles.

  2. England, Scotland,(Northern)Ireland, Wales or the United Kingdom as we are now has never had a Queen Elisabeth.

The Queen of England Wales and  the whole of Ireland in the 16th Century was Elizabeth Tudor - only known to the British as Queen Elizabeth until 1952 when we had a second Queen Elizabeth and the first Queen Elizabeth acquired a numeral at last! As far as England and Scotland are concerned, separate numbering is used for Monarchs, so the Present Queen Elizabeth the Second is officially Queen Elizabeth the First North of the Border.

  3. How can someone even ask a question like that

  4. She was the daughter of Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII.  The link below is, I believe, her official bio site.  You might see the film, The Other Boleyn Girl, about her mother Anne, aunt Mary, and her. I have not seen it, and although I hear it has some inaccuracies, I hear it is pretty good overall.  There is far too much to list here.

  6. So far, there aren't any Queens named "Elisabeth" to have ruled over the United Kingdom. The Act of Union 1800 united the Kingdom of Great Britain with the Kingdom of Ireland which brought forth "The United Kingdom" by King George III. There are so far only two Queens to have ruled over this newly titled nation, one being Queen Victoria and the other being the current British monarch, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Note: A regnal name, or reign name, is a formal name used by some popes and monarchs during their reigns. Since medieval times, monarchs have frequently chosen to use a name different from their own personal name (and therefore the regnal name is technically a pseudonym) when they inherit a throne.

  7. This is a great deal of info available on the internet about Elizabeth I. Here's a couple of links to get you started:

You might want to post your question in the homework section. While you are waiting you can start googling or use some of the reference materials available to you at your school.

    best of luck to you!

  8. The current rule for numbering monarchs of the United Kingdom, which was laid down in the 1950s, but is consistent with all previous kings and queens of the UK since 1707, is that they take the highest number an English or Scottish king or queen of that name would take. Thus the present queen is Elizabeth II even though there never was a Scottish Queen Elizabeth; similarly, if in the future there was a king David, he would be David III, or an Alexander would be Alexander IV, even though there have never been English kings of those names in the past. Saying that the present queen is "Queen Elizabeth II of England" is incorrect - the kingdoms of England and Scotland were abolished in 1707 when the Kingdom of Great Britain was created, and the United Kingdom was created in 1801; there have been NO "Kings of England" or "Kings of Scotland" since 1707.

The numbering system isn't perfect, as English royal numbering was reset in 1066 - Edward I wasn't the first English king called Edward, there were Edward the Martyr, and Edward the Confessor between the unification of England and the Norman Conquest...
