from memory I believe it was an AFL or NRL player who change his name to a brand (can't remember which) , so that everytime he had involvement in the match the commentators would call out the brand rather, thus providing advertising for the brand. I've been searching on the web for the answer as to the name of the player & brand. Can anyone remember/help out? I need it for an essay I'm writing.

  1. I remember it well , it was Gary Hocking who up until then had hardly said a word in public then all of a sudden he agreed to change his name to Whiskas . I also remember he was to change the name only for a few days then change it back , however for some reason he wasn't allowed to do it so the name change never actually took place and most commentators refused to refer to him as Whiskas anyway .

  2. GEELONG PLAYER GARY HOCKING Whiskers

  3. it was Gary Hocking and he changed his name to Whiskers...which is quite obviously a cat food brand.
