  1. A man by the name of Bill Veeck (pronounced Veck) was the owner of the St. Louis Browns in the mid-20th Century. Veeck was a bit of a prankster and one day decided to send a midget to bat. He had a talent agency hire a midget actor. The midget's name was Eddie Gaedel.

I noticed a poster had a description of Gaedel, but they were mistaken in that he had more than one AB. He hit once and he did so after popping out of a novelty cake.

He was instructed not to swing, and was told that if he did, Mr. Veeck would be on the roof with a high-powered rifle to gun him down.

He went to the plate, standing 4'5" tall, and the catcher dropped to his knees to give the target. He was walked on four pitches. His name is in the record books for that single AB, though they did try to remove it (unsuccessfully of course)

  2. 5feet 6 inches a shortstop or 2nd base for the cards like 40 or 50 years ago

  3. Eddie "Midget" Gaedell. He played for the St Louis Bowns in the early 1950's.

In the song "Talkin' Baseball" (1981)...."...Kiner and Midget Gaedell, the Thumper and Mel Parnell..."

  4. Big Eddy Gaedal.

  5. I believe that would be Harry Chappas, White Sox, 1978-1980, at a whopping 5'3" tall.

  6. Eddie Gadel. The midget brought to bat by Bill Veeck.

  7. The shortest major league player was Eddie Gaedel, who measured 3 feet 7 inches and weighed 65 pounds. Gaedel pinch-hit for the St. Louis Browns (AL) vs. the Detroit Tigers (AL) on August 19th, 1951. Wearing the number 1/8, and using a toy bat, the batter with the smallest ever Major League strike zone, walked on four pitches.  Hope that helps.

  8. There was a midget on the st.Louis browns so he got walked every time and he was like 4 feet 5 inches forgot name
