  1. I don't believe that the tradition has been abandoned.

    best of luck to you!

  2. I don't think I understand your question or even if you have a point

  3. I'm not an expert on the situtation in New Zealand. New Zealand, like Canada and Australia, no longer recommends its citizens for knighthoods from the Queen, though the government could if it wished. But is there really anything stopping people from calling a titled New Zealander by his title? Didn't the NZ newspapers refer to 'Sir Edmund'? Canada last recommended its citizens for knighthoods in the 1930s; Australia had its own rank of knight in the Order of Australia in the 1970s, I think, but I don't know who or when decided to stop granting knighthoods to New Zealanders in New Zealand.

  4. "Sir" and "Miss" or "Missus"- or "M'am", whichever you like- should be common place to anyone at any time. we call people Mrs. so- and so, but i mean even when you're addressing them casually. unless you're married or parent and child or best friends, call the person by a respectful and polite name. the person who stopped this wonderful practice should be punished.

i personally think our society is not in the least bit polite these days, with the exception of a handful of people who hold on to traditional roots.

  5. ?  I and many people I know address people as Sirs and Mam's, it is a respectful, courtesy thing.

If you meant like Knight and Sir, Friar and such that is an old English way of addressing people by their stature or post, which I believe still goes on in some parts .

Why would this be considered a stupid idea?  You address doctors as Dr. so and so....

  6. Er... most people still address men as sir as a sign of respect.  If you're referring to to the title of Sir as in knighthood, that is still in use today (if the person being addresed has been knighted, that is), so I really don't know what you're on about.

  7. It's just more stupid people being too lazy to use proper speech... it's just easier to be SLOPPY in everything they do.

  8. I think you may be misinformed, I don't believe that the title Sir has been abandoned just in the last few years Paul McCartney was Knighted he is now Sir Paul McCartney, I also think there have been others Knighted very recently.
