  1. Joe Louis could put you to sleep with either hand. He threw the best combinations in history.

  2. Its a tough question, because there are few guys I'm aware of who switched their natural stance to gain some advantage - De la Hoya is left-handed, switched conventional to maximize that left hook - Winky was the opposite, wanted that hard right-jab, I think Micky Ward did the same for that left-hook to the body.

As far as versatility with both hands, speed, power, variations and combination punching, etc. - I'd say Roy Jones, Naseem Hamed, Shane Mosely, Mike Tyson, James Toney all throw exceptionally well with both hands, Mayweather and Calzaghe too, they both throw punches with each hand very well.

  3. Though he fought primarily as a southpaw, Marvin Hagler fought from both sides.  Of course, he's one of the greatest middleweight champions of all time.

  4. Alexis Arguello

  5. Well, its hard to pick one and its hard to say who was really an ambidextrous boxer.  There were/are a lot who use both hands very good, here are a few examples:

Marvin Hagler- A naturally right handed fighter who fought as a southpaw, but he could switch at will to confuse his opponents and he had power in both hands.  You could tell he was naturally righty because if he ever had someone in deep trouble, he  would either switch or he would rely on his right more than his left.

Carmen Basilio- A natural left hander who fought orthodox, most likely to get a shot at the title because back then, southpaws were very discriminated against.  He had good power in both hands.

Marco Antonio Barrera- A natural lefty who fights orthodox and uses his good technical skills with either hand.

Chad Dawson- A natural righty who fights as a southpaw and has a very good right jab and straight left.  He has good power in either hand.

Winky Wright- A natural righty who fights southpaw.  His jab is his best weapon, but he can throw a pretty good left as well.

Kelly Pavlik- Pavlik actually is partially ambidextrous; he writes with his left hand, but he does everything else with his right, including his boxing stance.  He has power in either hand.

Joe Calzaghe- A southpaw who throws punches from all angles and has a great piston-like jab along with a very good straight left.

Michael Moorer- A natural righty who fought southpaw because it just felt more comfortable for him.  He had a good left, but his most effective work was done with his right jab and hooking and throwing uppercuts off his right.

Miguel Cotto- A natural lefty who fights orthodox.  His best weapon is the left hook to the body, but he has thrown many hard rights that have knocked down or even knocked out his opponents.

  6. Hagler

Marciano, Tyson, Louis could all bang someone out with either hand.

Calzaghe squares up alot using both hands.

  7. George Foreman had killer power in both hands, and swung for the fences with giant haymakers (in his younger years, at least).
