John Diefenbaker came to power in 1957, and introduced the Canadian Bill of Rights (which then was enshrined into the consitution by Trudeau as the Charter of Rights), fought for Canada's attachment to the royal family, and the Red Ensign. Some of his weak points were that he had to cancel the Avro Arrow due to lack of funding, and he was backstabbed by party members on the nuclear warheads issue.

Mulroney introduced the FTA and NAFTA, and he also created the GST and tried to bring Quebec into the constitution with Meech and Charlottetown, both of which failed.

  1. Without a doubt - Diefenbaker

The items you have listed for Mulroney pretty well tells you why it isn't him.  Add to that his going south of the border and bragging that he was the greatest Prime Minister Canada ever had. Aside from taking that initiative away from the citizens of this country (should be THEIR right) there have been a goodly number of Prime Ministers who were many times better than he was. This latest scandal - The Sponsorship scandal with Schreiber - has done not one thing to raise his status. He was and is a disgrace to this country.

  2. Dief the Chief. Mulroney only brought shame to us.
