It has been burning for over a year.  It started as a wildfire in the 2006 fire season.  The fire season usually starts in sept, and dies down with the winter rains.  Last winter was dry, so there was no relief.  Things are really dry so they are spreading worse than usual.

I hear this on the NPR news.

It looks like one of the arson suspects might already be dead (see link below).

The FBI are assisting a number of local law enforcement groups today in serving out arrest warrents, conducting searches, interviewing suspects, and gathering evidence.  So far one arrest has been made and unconfirmed reports indicate three other "persons of interest" are being sought.

Of the 15 major fires though, only a few seem to be arson related (three by last count) and those weren't among the largest.  A combination of three factors basically turned Southern California into a tinderbox: several consecutive severe regional droughts; exceptionally high Santa Ana winds for several days; and very, very low humidity created conditions for a "perfect" firestorm.

I don't know, but Steve Jones (yes, the Steve Jones from the s*x Pistols) said on his radio show on Indie 103.1 that there should an Arsonists Anonymous meeting organized and when they all get in the room together, lock the door and set them on fire. Or burn them at the stake either was good for him and for me for that matter. It's a very hellish atmosphere out here right now and I live 40 miles from the closest fire. My lungs, eyes and nose are burning. Along with the ash that is falling it looks bad.

Our firefighters are the best and I give them kudos along with all the other firefighters from out of state that have come to help put out the fires. Thanks everyone and please be safe!

i think one was the result of a downed power line that sparked and ignited one wildfire (i forget if this is potrero or the one out in ramona).

i know another one was caused by some kids AFTER the other three were going on (san ysidro). and i think they were caught.

and one started as a house fire that spread to the surrounding nature preserve (torrey pines).

and i think the rest of the 13 fires are a result of flying embers from these three...

fire cycles suck. but this is what happens when you drain the coastal marshlands and introduce invasive plant species...
