  1. Kumar Shri Ranjitsinhji became the first Indian to play Test cricket, when he made his debut on July 16th 1896, against Australia at Old Trafford. However, the country he was representing was England, as India were not at that time a Test playing nation.

India played its inaugural Test match on June 25th, 1932 against England at Lord's. India were captained by Cottari Nayudu, and Mohammad Nissar bowled the first ball of the match. The full eleven is: Amar Singh, Sorabji Colah, Jahangir Khan, Lall Singh, Naoomal Jaoomal, Janardan Navle, Cottari Nayudu, Nazir Ali, Mohammad Nissar, Phiroze Palia, Wazir Ali

  2. Kumar Shri Ranjitsinghji was the first Indian to play test cricket.

Ranjitsinghji was born in Sarodar, a small village in the western Indian province of Kathiawar, into a wealthy Indian family of princely status. In 1888 he came to Britain to enroll at Trinity College, Cambridge and went on to gain a cricket "blue" in his final year. After graduating, Ranjitsinhji moved to play county cricket for Sussex and made his Test debut for England in 1896, thus becoming the first Indian to play Test cricket.
