Who was the first king and queen of england?

Offa of Mercia 774. He was the first ruler of "England" however Egbert of Wessex 829 was the first continuous ruler of "England".

However again, England was not contunually unified until 927 so I suppose Athelstan could be technically called the first King of England

Really hard question that as it's almost impossible to say when was "England" frist formed, and who was a "king".
