  1. well, the records show edmund hillary ..but ?    mallory's body was found on everest a few years back , virtually at the summit by a group of international climbers. they were split 50-50 whether he reached the top or not ?

  2. Mallory's body was discovered by Conrad Anker et al close to the summit of everest. They believe that if they could find his camera they could then have conclusive proof of mallory and sandy irvine reaching the summit. The camera remains lost so no one knows for sure. In 1953 the british expedition put two men on top, the new zealander edmund hillary and the sherpa tenzing norgay. Now, these two climbers made a pact that they would stick to the story that they both stepped on top together, at the same time. however, there have been many stories about which of them got two the top first. Most people who want to have one person up first believe it was hillary, but a growing number believe it was tenzing. What they will tell you is that they were both on the same rope, therefore got to the top together. I like this answer.

  3. Dear Questioner,
