I ask because after the recent death of Edmund Hilary, the articles stated that his knighting was "one of Queen Elizabeth II's first actions after coronation," but doesn't indicate if he was her first knighting. If anyone also has some sort of chronological list of people she has knighted, that would be awesome.

  3. I know Sean Connery was knighted, but don't know where and by who, sorry. He is one of my favorite actors, I remember seeing him wear the ribbon across his chest. I may be wrong, but I thank so. Bill Gates was too.

Other Americans have received Britain's top honor including Nobel prize-winning scientist James Watson, George Bush Senior, former Mayor of New York Rudolph Giuliani, and Hollywood director Steven Spielberg.
