  1. You need to read Margaret Donaldson's Children's Minds. She is great. Knocks Piaget to bits. Her work is quite old and not very easy to read, but you can either plough your way through (it's really interesting stuff anyway especially the chapter on motivation, which is fascinating) or you could probably read a general child development book with a section on her work (Understanding Child Development by Jennie Lindon is a good one and refers to her criticism of Piaget).
