The Wombles.

The Wombles first appeared recycling everything they found on Wimbledon Common on British Television in 1973 (The books by Elisabeth Beresford appearing even earlier in 1960). The Incredible Hulk TV series started in 1978 on CBS much later. Interestingly, many major sporting teams based in Wimbledon still use the Wombles as their team mascot.
