  1. There was a Viking raid on Lindisfarne recorded in 793, but I don't think any of the Viking names are recorded. The earliest name I can find is Ragnar Hairy-breeches, who was the father of Ivar the Boneless. Ivar was one of the leaders of a major invasion of England that captured York in 866.

    Eric the Red was born about 100 years after that, and Leif Ericsson was (funnily enough) even later than that.
