  1. General George S. Patton. He hit a man suffering from 'shell shock' in a English hospital. Nothing happened to him, no upbraiding or demotion, as the effects of post-dramatic-stress-syndrome were not yet known.

  2. General Patton caused a big incident by slapping around not one, but two soldiers who he suspected of being in the med tent because of "battle fatigue," or "shell shock." which he considered simple cowardice.

The incident in the movie Patton was reduced to one soldier, and the facts were altered to make it look more favorable to Patton. In the real events, neither soldier was complaining of battle fatigue or shell shock, in fact, one had a legitimate injury and the other was suffering from malaria. I think it was the one with malaria that Patton first figured was a coward. Neither of them had psychological problems, not as the reason for their being in the med tent at any rate.

Patton was not demoted for this, but he was denied advancement that he otherwise could have been entitled to for his good performance in the Sicily campaign. He remained a 3-star general, but general Bradley was given overall command of American forces in Europe, including the invasion of Normandy. Patton was shuttled around the Mediterranean for a while, participating in relatively minor actions and also keeping German intelligence off balance. Eventually the Allies put him in England and built a completely fictional army around him, because the Germans believed he would lead the invasion of France. Using him as a decoy in this way delayed the arrival of German tank divisions to Normandy and contributed greatly to its success.

  3. My guess would be Patton.  He was a bit of a loose cannon.

  4. Im going to say Patton because all the others are

  5. patton.   It's in the movie also.
