Who was the greatest Dictator Ever?

So many to choose from, Adolf, Saddam, George, Margaret, Gordon (He wishes), Gadaffi, Stalin, Amin??? The list is endless. Who was your favourite, who is your choice.Opinions please

Hmmm... tough. I think Hitler gets the most air time these days and definitely an important dictator who shaped many of the key events from last century, although I'm not sure I would describe him as the 'greatest' because his acts were so awful and deranged.

Stalin is a personal favourite for me because he managed to keep control for so long over such a massive country. Although again, he did some horrible things as a dictator.

I think there are greater dictators if you look further back in history. What about Napoleon or Charlemagne? They have left a longer legacy because of their actions. It is hard to judge Amin or Saddam as we don't have much hindsight!

The various leaders of the Mongols were probably the greatest dictators of all time.  They were the only one to truly conquor the world (or at least as much of it as they cared to conquor) and they did it with an extremely small population base.  There just aren't that many Mongols around.  

Also Alexander the Great should get a mention because he had it in his name.

If you judge by sheer level of horror and torturous barbarism, the most terrible dictator was: Vlad the Impaler.

Vlad the Impaler acted as judge and executioner for hundreds of thousands of innocent peasants and farmers, the impaling pike his preferred means for implementing death sentences. Vlad was so infamous that he was the primary basis for Bram Stoker's "Dracula."

Stalin easy. Sent 20m of his own subjects to the Gulags, largely to prove he wasn't to be messed with. Hitler was a faag in comparison.

Incidentally, Jasonr above says "Hitler was the greatest orator in history", so is obviously a fan and therefore a threat. He will duly be reported to the ADL as anti-semitic.

Although Hitler was a sick, twisted, demented human being, he was one of the greatest orators in History. He was able to get his countrymen to support almost everything he did.
