  1. I'm sure I was in the UK on VE day and heard that King George vl and Queen Mary were to appear in the commons the next Suinday.

  2. Charles I of England was executed in 1649 for  famously engaging in a struggle for power with the Parliament of England. Charles entered the House of Commons with an armed force on 4 January 1642, but found that his opponents had already escaped. He asked the Speaker, William Lenthall, where the MPs had fled, and Lenthall famously replied, "May it please your Majesty, I have neither eyes to see nor tongue to speak in this place but as the House is pleased to direct me, whose servant I am here." This move was politically disastrous for Charles. It caused acute embarrassment for the monarch and essentially triggered the total breakdown of government in England.

  3. Elizabeth II.  I think she does so to begin the session every year.

  4. Infamously Charles I, the Monarch is nowadays not allowed to enter the House of Commons, that is why the House of Commons is summoned to the House of Lords to hear the Queen's speech at the State Opening of Parliament.

  5. queen victoria
