  1. The hangman was a Mr. Pierrepoint. I don't know who was hanged, but Mr. Pierrpoint had a very nice, large house just outside Southport, Lancashire.

  2. ruth ellis was the last women to be hanged in the uk 1953 i think

  3. from http://www.stephen-stratford.co.uk/last_...

"No individual was the last person hanged in the UK, as the last executions took place at the same time but at different prisons: Peter Anthony Allen at Liverpool and Gwynne Owen Evans at Manchester Prisons. Both were hanged on 13 August 1964. Subsequent people were sentenced to death, but they were all reprieved."

  4. i am not entirely sure who was the last man,,,

but the last woman hanged in uk in 1956 was Ruth Ellis,,,

she was hanged by Albert Pierrepoint, uks official hangman he retired shortly afterwards,,,people said it was bcause he had hanged a woman but it was because the Brit Govt didnt pay him properly for his work,,,,and then capital punishment was later  abolished in the 60,s,

i believe Albert despatched almost 400 people in the course of his life and i think he died around 1992,,,look him up,,,he will be on net somewhere

  5. Albert Pierrepoint's story is dramatically presented in the excellent Brit film "The Last Hangman" (2005).

The last living hangman was Syd Dernley.
