  1. the Irish republican brotherhood, there was no one leader, all though some would say the Padraig Pearce and james connolly were the spear heads , of the rising

  2. Pearse, as has been said, although Eamon de Valera led the only really successful action against the British during his unit's action at Bolands Mill in the south east city.

  3. Padraig Pearse

  4. Largely organised by the Irish Republican Brotherhood,

the Rising lasted from Easter Monday April 24 to April 30, 1916. Members of the Irish Volunteers,

led by school teacher and barrister Patrick Pearse, joined by the smaller Irish Citizen Army of James Connolly, seized key locations in Dublin and proclaimed an Irish Republic independent of Britain. There were some actions in other parts of Ireland, but they were minor and, except at Ashbourne, County Meath, unsuccessful.

The Rising was suppressed after six days of fighting, and its leaders were court-martialled and executed, but it succeeded in bringing physical force republicanism back to the forefront of Irish politics. Less than three years later, in January, 1919, survivors of the Rising convened the First Dáil and established the Irish Republic.
