  1. Sorry-Earl of Essex.

  2. There were many nobles and then there was the man that the queen loved, Robert Devourex. Don't know if I spelled that right but he was the step-son of Robert Dudely and the son of the queen's cousin Lettice Knoylls, whom the queen hated.

  3. There were a couple of Irish noblemen who tried to revolt against Queen Elizabeth I from Ireland:

Gerald FitzGerald, 15th Earl of Desmond (c. 1533 – 11 November 1583) was an Irish nobleman and leader of the Desmond Rebellions of 1579. For some time, Desmond resisted a summons to appear at Elizabeth's court with the plea that he was at war with his uncle Maurice. When he did appear in London in May 1562, his insolent conduct before the privy council resulted in a short imprisonment in the Tower of London.

Aodh Mór Ó Néill (c. 1565 – 20 July died in Rome, in 1616) was the 3rd Earl of Tyrone (known as the Great Earl) and was later created The O'Neill. O'Neill's career was played out against the background of the Tudor re-conquest of Ireland, and he is best known for leading the resistance during the Nine Years War, the strongest threat to English authority in Ireland since the revolt of Silken Thomas.

  4. I believe the one you are thinking of is Robert Southey, Earl of Essex.  He had been one of the Queen's favourites, almost a lover, but then led a brief unsuccessful revolt.  He got the chop.

  5. NORFOLK
