  1. Miss Piggy :-D

  2. eleanor roosevelt in general

    jackie for her style

    hillary for her involvement

  3. I admire Nancy Reagan for her later years in taking care of her husband, I admire Eleanor because of her service to our country. I admire them  both for different reasons I can't say who I admire most it just depends on how you look at every first lady and what time frame... While they were at the white house or after many of them have shapped our country in some way.

  4. Eleanor Roosevelt, Nancy Reagan and Hillary Clinton were all controversial First Ladies in their eras. Although each had admirers who saw them as heroic, each attracted significant numbers of vehement detractors.

Popular 20th Century First Ladies include Edith Roosevelt, Grace Coolidge, Mamie Eisenhower, Lady Bird Johnson (who was greatly responsible for the beautification of America and a founder of the environmental movement) and the much admired Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, who was lauded for her beauty, sense of style and her courage during the aftermath of her husband's assassination.

In the 1800's popular First Ladies included  "Lemonade" Lucy Hayes,  a temperance advocate and one of the first college graduates to be First Lady; Julia Dent Grant and Frances Folsom Cleveland, considered one of the great beauties of her time, who married Grover Cleveland in the White House.

But the most popular First Lady of all time was Dolley Madison. James Madison's wife was an attractive woman who had a welcoming and pleasing personality. She charmed all who met her --especially at the social gatherings she organized or attended. When the British burned Washington in 1814, she rescued valuables from the White House including an irreplaceable Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington. For fifty years she led American society not by virtue of money or position, but because she was so well-loved.

  5. it was Onassis first then E.Roosevelt

  6. Nancy Reagan was not well liked by most Americans.  She simply was too controlling and set herself above most people.  And, it's unlikely she would have ever received the Mother of the Year Award.

Eleanor Roosevelt represented the good and wise mother. Jackie Kennedy gave us the glamour we always crave and then showed us courage and grace in the face of tragedy.

All of our First Ladies have done their jobs well and it's hard to say who was the most admired.  There is so much we do not know about them and what did they sacrifice.  I have often wondered about Pat Nixon and what her life was really like...........I guess it's "walk a mile in my shoes"

    best of luck to you

  7. Got to be Marylin Monroe.

  8. Jackie O

Edit--I guess it is just a matter of opinion.

  9. It would have to be Jackie Kennedy.  She conducted herself in a manner that brought pride to her position.  She kept her poise and dignity through her husband's assassination, and was a terrific role model for young women.  She also was the first fashionable First Lady.

  10. Yea it really is a matter of opinion. Every first lady has done something different for this country so you can't declare one the "best" or most admired. But there are definitely the favorites like Jackie O and Eleanor, Nancy Reagan, Lady Bird

  11. I would have to say Eleanor Roosevelt IMHO for her service to her country; But Jackie Kennedy  was well admired also for her style and culture and her grace under extreme pressure in the national spotlight during the tragic event faced by her and this country. (JFK's assassination)

  12. Jackie Kennedy.

  13. I wouldn't trust the Reagan Library to make a completely factually accurate statement about Nancy Reagan -- not that they're liars, they're just naturally biased.

Its hard to say who the most admired is, since "admired" is impossible to quantify. But a short list would be:

Eleanor Roosevelt, for her social activism

Jackie Kennedy, for the glamour, and the sympathy after her husband's death

Barbara Bush, for her "national grandmother" status

Dolly Madison, for helping saving national treasures when the British burned Washington during the War of 1812

And maybe Betty Ford, for her honesty about her problems with addiction

I wouldn't list Nancy Reagan -- my memory is that she was viewed as kind of shrewish and distant when she was in the White House. (Though not as much as Hillary Clinton.)

  14. Eleanor Roosevelt and Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis.Roosevelt was politically active. Onassis' concern was history, culture. She refurbished the White House to give it some standing;to her it was an historical monument.Onassis thought that the US had a good and interesting historical background and wanted visitors to know about it.

  15. Jackie O

  16. I think it's a tie between Eleanor Roosevelt and Jackie O.
