I know this is a strange question to ask. But, Who was the most famous Jewish Outfielder?

We were having a discussion yesterday and no one could come up with the name. We were thinking he played between 1945 to 1965 and for one of the New York teams. (Yankees, Dodgers, Giants) But, we are not locked into those teams and he may have played into early 1970s. If anyone could shed some light on this, we'd appreciate it.

  1. hank greenberg, rod carew converted

  2. What does religion have to do with baseball?

  3. Moe “The Rabbi of Swat” Solomon. Well, that's what they called him. Had a partial season in the bigs. Couldn't live up to the name, though.

  4. I don't know who you're think of (maybe Art Shamsky who played for the Mets) but the best Jewish outfielder has to be Shawn Green.  He hit 328 home runs including 4 in one game.  Unless you count Hank Greenberg who played 239 in the outfield but was primarily a first baseman.  He's a Hall of Famer and had 331 home runs.  More than any other Jewish player.

Sid Gordon wasn't too bad either.

Ten years from now I'm sure Ryan Braun will be at or near the top of this list.

  5. Rod carew

  6. Hank Greenberg...

    Carew was not an outfielder.

  7. I'm not sure who your talking about, but Hank Greenberg is probably the most famous Jewish baseball player apart from Koufax and he played Outfield for one season, but was primarily a 1st Baseman.

Rod Carew married a Jewish woman, but he is not Jewish.

Currently, Shawn Green is probably the best Jewish Outfielder ever, but Ryan Braun also looks pretty good, albeit a small sample size.
