  1. The first homo sapiens sapiens found was Omo, dating back to 195,000 years ago, in Ethiopia.

  2. Mathilda, notice this "sapien" skull does not have a chin?

By the way, good answer to the question.

  4. Jock Tampson. 10 points.

  5. I believe it was Lucy, a fossil found in Ethiopia believed to have lived 3.2 million years ago.

But, I don't think she was considered a homo sapien, but part of a similar species that died out but shared a common ancestor with homo sapiens

  6. Homo Sapiens Idaltu, found in Herto, Ethiopia. His name translates as 'elder man'. He's about 195,000 years old, right on the borderline of archaic and modern human.

It depends where you draw the line. Fully modern human remains have been found about 125,000 years old in Israel, Skhul, making them the oldest non-African modern humans.

Makes a bit of a mockery of the 40k 'Out of Africa' date.

Edit... Ed, he's either part Neanderthal or one of our royals!

  7. Probably an Chinaman. Maybe 115 years old. Check Guinness.

  8. Ramapithecus was seemed well placed as one of our early ancestors and was, at times called as the first hominid, date backs to 18-20 million years ago.

  9. She was 122 years and 164 days old. Jeanne Calment of France, 1875–1997. The longest unambiguously documented lifespan, but it's been disputed a number of times. Check the link for more info on her. It's kinda cool that she lived this long!!

  12. No religious answers...  hmmm  that limits us to Andy Rooney.

  13. blah...... homo sapien... our form... about 35000 years old....and fossils found to that effect all over......

  14. Adam and Eve were the first two people on earth around 6000 years ago. If evolution were correct and people inhabited the earth hundreds of thousands or millions of years ago, our current population would be more than the number of atoms in the universe. Population studies show that the current population of 6.5 billion people is close to what you would expect if the human population were started around 4-6000 years ago by two people.
