Who was wrong and who was right?

A woman and her granddaughter came up to me a chuck e cheese asking for my manager because someone had stolen their tokens and tickets. She complained to the manager and pointed out a little boy who had been "eyeing" their tickets and tokens. The manager talked to the boy but he and his parents assured them that he did not take anything.

The manager became kind of fustrated, because this really is the persons responsibility. She told them that we are NOT responsibile and could not give her free tokens and tickets that she was asking for. The woman called the manager "mean". I gave her a handful of tokens out of the drawer to shut the woman up, but who was right here? The manager or this woman?

It really is their responsibility to watch their things. Leaving tokens on a table in a resturant filled with small children and older children who would surely take them is extremely foolish.

  1. The woman was wrong. She should have made sure they watched their belongings and shouldn't blame it on the restaurant, even if the boy did take the tickets--its not the manager's responsibility.

  2. the manager was right and the women was wrong.

it is the customers responsibility to watch their belongings.

  3. the woman is crazy! u guys have no responsibility for her belongings!

  4. The manager is right, especially if there is a notice up that states that you are responsible for your own belongings.

  5. What on earth is "chuck e cheese"?  Sounds like a shop where you go to be sick on dairy products!

The manager would have been trained to deal with such situations so you should leave him to it.  It's his responsibility.

  6. The manager can't controll someones mind. He was right.

  7. I think the manager was definitely right. I mean how can you be responsible for every kid's tokens in a chuck e. cheese? It was a little ridiculous for the grandma to think that you would give her more tickets, especially when she suspected the other kid of wanting to steal them anyway! She should have kept up with them better! Some people just don't get it...

  8. I think your Manager was right. Do you have a sign in the restaurant stating that you are not responsible for lost or stolen items? If not, then this is the perfect time to have one made.

It was nice of you to pacify the woman in her moment of anger. She lost her things because of her foolishness and then tried to blame a child whom she did NOT see take them. Just because someone is "eying" something, does not make them the culprit. Yes, it gives the impression they DID take it, but unless she had seen the actual theft of tokens/tickets, she has no right to blame anyone other than herself.

Giving her the handful of tokens was great on your part. We've all heard the saying, " The customer is always right." With you giving her these, it's a possibility she'll be a return customer and her purchases are what gives you your paycheck. Just be aware of her the next time she comes in. You, or another employee, can watch her to make sure she doesn't pull the same thing again.

  9. i am willing to be a ton of money that there is not just one, but several signs around the restaurant that says the company is not liable for any lost or stolen property.

it was all the woman's fault. if she leaves her belongings unattended then it's her fault if it gets lost or stolen. while i wouldnt have given her any more tokens if i was in your place, it guess it's a way of diffusing the situation.

ask your manager how you should deal with such a situation next time, i'm sure he can tell you about policies and all that.

  10. The manager is in the right. The grandmother was irresponsible to leave them lying around and expect more!
