  1. all time favorite race horse has 2 b the great Star over the bay.

  2. Real Quiet - aka "The Fish" was one of the greats.

We should have had a Triple Crown champion in Afleet Alex; he had the heart of a true champion. I don't know of anyone who didn't cry when he got up in the stretch of the Preakness.

The best turf horse of the last 20 years, English Channel, just retired this past week.

The best horse currently running in the world, Curlin, seems to be looking forward to a 4yo career next year. I'm very excited to watch the development of a true champion.

All that being said, Man O'War was the greatest there ever was, we all know who Secretariat was, and let's not forget about the Slew. His race record speaks for itself.

  3. Ruffian :o)

    isn't she pretty? :o)

Ruffian wasn't really that small... she was 16.2 hands!... that's pretty big for a filly!  She sorta was a sprinter...  as a 2 year old she did a lot of 6-7 furlong races.  As a three year old, she had to stretch out to the distances... she ran in all the major 3 year old filly races in the US and won the Filly Crown.  She stretched out her speed from sprints to a mile and a half...  and she was perfect at every step...  she broke to the lead and was in front at every point of call from a sprint to a mile and a half.  She always went to the front and stayed there for the entire race...  she never lost and she was never headed.  She set a stakes or track record in almost every race.  And I don't think she ever won by less than 2 lengths.  Lucien Lauren (Secretariat's trainer) watched her race and said “As God is my witness, she may be better than Secretariat.”  Never beaten, never headed.  Perfect.

  4. Holy Bull. I wish he hadn't broken down in his race against Cigar. I love both of them. I'm sure it would have been an amazing race if Holy Bull had just made it to the finish. I'm not even sure who would have come out on top.

  5. Ruffian was a filly, get it right.  My picks are Ruffian and Phar Lap

  6. Affirmed was probably my favorite big time horse. My all time favorite though was a gelding named Iron Eyes. He was on the So. Cal circuit in the late 80's. He would wash out worse than any horse Ive ever seen but would always run great. He was a high priced claimer who went up the ladder through allowance races and went on to run in either the Californian or Gold Cup. He lost by a head bob to Judge Angelucci at about 20-1. Luckily I boxed the exacta. I dont think he ever ran again after that. I won alot of money on that horse.

  7. #1 Secretariat #2 Cigar

  8. the great nashwan trained by the major and with willie on top

  9. My two personal favourites are DUBAI MILLENNIUM and HAAFHD.

I was just getting into racing when Dubai Millennium was running as a 3 year old (1999), I thought he was a wonderful horse and followed his race career.  Just a few years later I was lucky enough to work at Darley for the only season DM stood at stud.  He was a beautiful horse, an absolute machine, and it was devastating to lose him to grass sickness.

In the same year, 2001, I was lucky enough to look after a little chestnut colt by Alhaarth out of the excellent mare Al Bahathri.  He went on to be named Haafhd and won the 2000 Guineas (G1) and the Champion Stakes (G1).  He also won me an awful lot of money as I backed him ante-post for the Guineas at 33-1!

He is now at stud just outside Newmarket, and his first 2 year olds run next year.

  10. cougar2nd...(the big cat}

king of cricket.....never was beaten out of the gate...107-4..del mar

  11. Sorry, I  no longer follow that sport. The last one I loved was Secretariat. I also have fondness for Eclipse (1700's), Man o War, & some others.

  12. Makybe diva was Australians champion Mare and my Avatar is her picture after winning the Melbourne Cup 3 times, the only Mare Or Horse to ever do so , and ain't she pretty.

  13. favorite ever: Secretariat

favorite during my lifetime: theres two

Ghostzapper , he was awesome and ran the fastest Breeders Cup Classic ever.  wish his career had been longer.and

i was also a big Smarty Jones fan, i was at Belmont for the Belmont Stakes, the place was packed beyond belief and when SJ hit the stretch in the lead the roar of a hundred thousand racing fans desperate for a triple crown horse was absolutely deafening.  people were jumping on top of each other trying to get a view.   i still think he would have won if his jockey would have let him loose on the back stretch instead of fighting him half the race. oh well. ill never forget the disappointed fans, cursing and spitting at his trainer on the way out.  thats new york for ya.
