  1. Dale Sr. mid 90's.  Then Rusty Wallace for a while.  But Dale Sr was always THE man.

  2. Harry Gant and Richard Petty in the early 80's.

  3. #43 Richard Petty since 1968 .

  4. Rusty Wallace #2

  5. 2005; Jimmie Johnson

  6. Jeff Gordon #24 and Jimmie Johnson #28

  7. my first favorite drivers were actually nhra guys - "big daddy" don garlits and don "the snake" prudhomme, back in the early 70's.

for nascar? probably cale yarborough, but that was because it was the only name i could remember.  that was a loooong time ago, back when we watched only every now and then.

at my first live race (vegas, 2003), i cheered on hideo fukuyama, driver of the #66 kikkoman ford.  i did so because he was so far behind i figured he needed at least one fan.  he finished 33rd, 9 laps down.  he only ran two races in each year 2002 and 2003, with two last place finishes, a 39th place, and his best - the 33rd place mentioned above (probably because he had one fan that day ;-)

besides hideo, i cheered on vegas' own kurt busch, then his brother when he came up. i'd place bets at the casinos on kurt and junior nearly every week while i lived there.  i've added other drivers who i root for, but the busch brothers remain front and center.

  8. Sterling Marlin 90's

  9. Bill Elliott early 80

  10. David Pearson/early 80s.

  11. Kenny Irwin - 1998 Rookie of the Year.

  12. Dale Earnhardt junior   the year was 2001.

  13. Matty Roy Kenseth 2006

  14. In the sixties, Pearson and Petty.

My dad liked them both, so did I.

  15. Richard Petty, 1970. 12 yrs later I watched this redheaded Georgia boy win at riverside, then I had two favorite drivers. Now I am AMPED up as I watched this guy race when he was learning to use a razor and now is one of NASCAR's top drivers.

All three drivers have class and are well respected by their team mates.

  16. In 2002 I tested the Nascar waters but in 2003, I was a full fledged fan. I actually have that whole season on tape. Neurotic? Maybe.

I went through a bunch before settling.

    2002: Elliott Sadler

    2002: Sterling Marlin

    2002: Bill Elliott

2003: Jimmie Johnson (was in his fan club and seen his potential during his rookie season, I said he would be the next Richard Petty)

    2003: Kevin Harvick

    2004: Kasey Kahne

2005: No one to start the year then reverted back to Elliott Sadler and stuck with him since

Funny story goes along with that. I woke up one morning a boy with no driver to pull for when I just said that I will pull for Elliott Sadler. Checked Nascar.com and seen he was on the pole for the Brickyard 400. I think he was running in sixth at the time and cut down a tire with less than 10 or 20 to go and he has stated that race was when his bad luck officially started and look where he is now, 28th in the points and dropping. I will stop rambling now.

Oh, yeah, I have to specify I was never a band wagoner, I actually like pulling for drivers while they are in a slump or starting out so I can say I watched them become great. That's why I went with Jimmie but I didn't like him off track.

Since last year Kyle Busch has been a top prospect for me when Elliott Sadler retires.
