Question:

Who watches Figure skating?

I'm just wondering if anybody is, since the ratings have decreased tremendously, and I'm upset, because I do love to watch figure skating. The coverage is horrible these days in the US, we only get to see 3-4 out of 15 skaters. I also think thats why the ratings are going down because they keep showing all the same people, people get bored.

So here, I want to see just how many people actually watch it.

  1. Me

  2. I used to skate so I love to watch it from time to time, but it does seem like there is a lot less then a few years ago.

  3. I'm a figure skater, and i occasionally watch skating on TV. I think sports are more fun when your doing them rather than seeing them on TV. But as far as sports on TV, skating is my favorite. I love watching synchronized skating and the olympics.

  4. I like watching figure skating. I enjoy the competion figure skating better than the shows. When we lived in Europe it seemed like they had more ice skating and world events on t.v.

  5. I know what you mean.

I live in New Zealand and there is no coverage at all. The only time you may see one skater is when the olympics or winter olympis is on.

I too agree that there is no momentum to some of the 'current' skaters performances or routines.

  6. I like ice skating. It's pretty to watch. It's cool! :D

  7. What's Figure skating

  8. I used to figure skate so I watch them whenever they're on. Mostly I liked the women figure skaters and the pairs. I'm not a fan of the men single skaters.

  9. I have my Tivo programmed to record every program about figure skating.  I love to watch it, although I can't skate myself.  I'm glad to see that there are a lot of new young skaters who are doing so well.  However, I still miss Michelle K.

  10. omg!! ME!!!!!!!! i'm inlove with figure skating!!! i take lesons every week! and i have my own nice new ice skates that are gorgeous!! i love figure skating and i watch it all the time everytime the winter olympics are on! or even just an ice skating show on ABC or something! and yes, i watch it! its my favorite sport, and i love watching it! and their routines! :D plus, if i'm out and about, (lol) and i miss it, my Tivo just records he programs for me! ;) and i can rewind the program from the beginning!

  11. I love figure skating, I love to watch and skate. I also wish that they had better coverage here in the US.

  12. I love watching figure skating and watching them perform like Jeffrey Buttle, Sasha Cohen, Joannie Rochette, Yuna Kim, and etc. I am a figure skater and by watching them perform can help me correct some of my jumps.

  13. I try to keep up with watching skating . . . but like you said, it's down tremendously (booooooooo!).  I miss all the pro competitions or even those skating show specials!!  Sigh.

If it helps any, check out http://web.icenetwork.com/index.jsp if you haven't already.  At least you can see more skating there!!!!

  14. me2 i love watching ice skating i think its more fun to watch ice skating then baseball , baseball is so confusing to watching cs u hav to watch a small ball fly everywherer

  15. I don't keep up with it as much as I used to, mostly because I'm too busy and don't make a point of it anymore.  I don't really have a favorite skater currently so that I would make a point of watching skating.  For some reason, skating on TV has lost something.  I'm not exactly sure what it is.

Competitions have gotten sort of boring.  Maybe is it because America (specifically) doesn't have a current "sweetheart" skater that everyone follows and can't help but like?  I think Michelle Kwan left some VERY large shoes to fill and nobody has been able to match her.  As was asked in TripleBunnyHop's recent question about why current skaters aren't as recognized lately, I think (for the women, which is what a majority of people follow) the younger, less experienced skaters appeared in Michelle's wake and unfortunatly haven't made the impact in and outside of the skating world that Michelle did.  I would think the new judging system would actually challenge skaters to come up with new things to maximize points, but I think that now that skaters almost have to be contortionists to do a spin and have to squeeze an awful lot of difficulty into their programs, does it seem that skating is becoming, dare I say it, too difficult so that the pool of "sweethearts" has become such a small group.

As for more entertainment driven skating, I used to video tape (yes, I said tape! haha) everything I possibly could with Kristi Yamaguchi in it....commercials, news spots, shows.  Now I think a lot of the great entertaining skaters, Scott Hamilton, Kristi Yamaguchi, Kurt Browning, don't participate as much as they used to in TV specials.  I think the idea of skating with a live band and (usually formerly) well-known entertainers is a cool idea and wish it would have been done awhile ago.  It's not that there aren't great skaters in the more recent shows, but some are not very well known and have no showmanship.  They throw in a few current Olympic/National skaters and a few people who make you think, "Who the heck is that," or "Whoa, he's/she's STILL skating?"

  16. oh ya

  17. little girls and g*y men

  18. I am a skater,so I watch it. Although I must say that it is a bit boring. I miss the old days. I think that the problem is that the music is so overused. Everybody's music sounds the same!  I think that they should allow them to use music with words. It gives them a bigger selection.
