The mughals or Mongols came to India from Samarkand. The first Mughal to come to India was Babar, he came to India in the first half of the 15th century. His grandfathers were descended from Chengiz Khan and Timur. Babar established mughal rule in north India and his successive generations ruled India till 1857 till the Bahadur Shah the last mughal ruler was exiled in Burma ( Myanmar) by the British, and the dynasty's rule came to an end.

The greatest of all mughal rulers was Akbar who ruled from 1556 to about 1607( i am not quite of this date)
