Well i think the S.E.S, police, ambulance and fire departments were the main form of aid for Newcastle in the aftermath of the quake. As for repairing the buildings, I'm sure people's building insurance companies covered the costs of repair. Any public buildings damage would of course been repaired by the government, but residential homes would have had to look to insurance and owners probably repaired parts of their own home themselves.
