Who were the members of the Estates General and what was each group's goals?

The First Estate was the clergy; the Second Estate was the aristocracy; and the Third Estate was the masses.  The goal of the first two estates was to prevent the Third Estate from gaining any power or influence.  This was achieved by giving each Estate a single vote, regardless of number of members in each group.  The minority members of the First and Second Estates always stood in opposition to the Third Estate 2-1.
