  1. Winners: Yankees(Pudge,Nady,Marte),Brewers(Sabath... Sox(Ramirez),Pirates(4 Prospects),White Sox(Griffey Jr.),Angels(Teixeria)

    Losers:Red Sox(Ramirez),Rangers(No trades),Indians(Sabathia),Rays(No trades),Cardinals(No trades),Reds(Griffey Jr.)Braves(Teixeria)

  2. If I had to pick the winners and loser of the trade deadline....

    Winners

    - Los Angeles Dodgers

GM Ned Colletti might live to see another day after acquiring one of the premier hitters in Manny Ramirez. Sure he's a headcase but the guy can produce and now the NL West will be decided by Manny himself. The Dodgers are not paying one cent to Manny for the next two months (three if they make it) and got rid of two prospects they didn't need (3B Andy LaRoche and P Bryan Morris). Even if Manny doesn't resign, the Dodgers will certainly get two compensation picks in the Amateur Draft next summer from the team that sign him if they offer arbitration to Manny. The Dodgers also got a temporary solution at 3B with Casey Blake, although at a steep price.

    - Milwaukee

The Brewers were great last season but CC Sabathia has made them better this season. Sabathia has been "Cy-Young" since joining the Brewers a month ago and could get Milwaukee a taste of playoff fever soon.

    - Chicago Cubs

The only team holding the Brewers from winning the NL Central is the Chicago Cubs and the Cubs intend to keep that lead, even getting Rich Harden a day after Sabathia arrive in Milwaukee. Harden looks untouchable at times, striking out 10+ batters in every start as a Cub, although it only translate to one win at that span. Still, Harden is pretty good, as long as he stay healthy.

    - Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

What does a team with the best record need? I say nothing but the rich get richer with the Angels getting 1B Mark Teixeira from the Atlanta Braves. Although it cost them Casey Kotchman, Teixeira was the solution to get the Angels beyond the first round and possibly the World Series.

    - Oakland A's

I know that Billy Beane wave the white flag a little to early but Beane has that reputation of being the best GM around, even if people don't agree with some of his move. He basically traded the new 'Big 3' (Dan Haren, Rich Harden, Joe Blanton) for several prospects rather than signing them to a big contract. One of the prospects in both deals, Josh Outman, might be better than Blanton. Beane was certainly right when he traded Mulder for Haren and look how that turn out.

    - New York Yankees

The Yankees are never big time winners on the trading deadline but they had to solve their injury situation while still competing for a playoff spot. They got former Mets OF Xavier Nady to replace Hideki Matsui for the time being and got I-Rod to be the everyday Catcher. Not to mention that they get a left-handed reliever (Damaso Marte) to pitch against the David Ortiz and Justin Morneau of the AL. Richie Sexson was a nice consolation prize as Giambi backup.

    - Atlanta Braves

The Braves had to do something with the landscape of the NL East changing to the Mets and Philles. They knew they couldn't keep Teixeira beyond 2008 and got what best. They couldn't get Conor Jackson but Casey Kotchman is no slouch. The power isn't there but it'll come soon.

    - Boston Red Sox

The Sox just couldn't take the abuse anymore, even though Manny got them two titles and the playoffs every season he was there. The Sox took what was best out of this situation and got Jason Bay, who's an ideal Red Sox player that can take pitches into deep count. Sure it cost them OF Brandon Moss and P Craig Hansen, along with Manny and the remaining $7 million left in the deal, but Bay is improving as a player and he's under the Sox control for much of 2009 also, so that isn't bad either.

    - Cleveland Indians

The Indians arguably took the best prospect out there today in OF Matt LaPorta in the Sabathia deal and looks like he's going to be a force someday for the Indians. They also have a potential replacement for Victor Martinez in Carlos Santana and got a future closer in Jonathan Meloan (both from the Casey Blake deal). The Indians are set-up for the future.

    Losers

    - Florida Marlins

Basically, the Marlins just got too greedy in the end. Leading up to the deadline, the Marlins were asking prospects along with the remaining $7 million left in Manny's contract. The Red Sox were sending two prospects away to the Pirates in the initial three-way and couldn't send more to the Marlins with the Pirates getting Jeremy Hermida in that deal. The Marlins are vouching for a new stadium and this non-move didn't help them one bit. At least they got Arthur Rhodes.

    - Seattle Mariners

Erik Bedard? Raul Ibanez? Jarrod Washburn? J.J. Putz? Adrian Beltre? The Mariners didn't trade one singer player on that list for prospects and now can lose Ibanez for nothing this offseason. There payroll still roam around $110 million but they need to start rebuilding around Ichiro. The non-move certainly didn't fare well with Mariners fan, especially since they lost the Sonics.

    - Cincinnati Reds

GM Walt Jocketty is usualy a smart GM back in his days with the Cardinals but this trading deadline, he had his hands tied to his back. Beside getting rid of Ken Griffey Jr., they couldn't showcase their ultimate piece, Adam Dunn. Dunn could have got the Reds top-notch prospects in return but now they could lose him for compensation picks this off season. They couldn't even rid of the burden name Bronson Arroyo also.

    - Tampa Bay Rays

Are the Rays starting to become the East Coast version of the Dodgers? They like there prospects too much to get rid of them for potentially their first playoff appearance in team history. Jason Bay would have help the Rays a lot with their young lineup but it has been the reluctance that could make them fall.

    - Toronto Blue Jays

Up North, they don't even know what they are. Are they rebuilding or they competing? That might be their demise this season and eventually could lose A.J. Burnett in the end without good prospects (Burnett is expected to opt-out after this season).

    - Pittsburgh Pirates

I think the Pirates did okay with those two deals (Nady and Bay) but I wonder if they got a lot in return. The prospects that the Pirates got weren't top-notch like Matt LaPorta or Jeremy Hellickson, but are still serviceable. I think they'll be comfortable with what they got in the three way (OF Brandon Moss, P Craig Hansen, 3B Andy LaRoche, P Bryan Morris) but they might have ask for more.

    - New York Mets

They could of had some help in the corner OF but just didn't want to mortage their future for a chance at the playoff. The last time they did that, they lost Scott Kazmir for basically a worthless Victor Zambrano. They learn there lesson but could still had some help in the OF and bullpen.

  3. The Dodgers were winners. They needed a big bat and got Manny Ramirez. Their outfield was a little on the downside, so adding Ramirez is a huge deal. The Diamondbacks on the other hand, were probably losers for the trade deadline. They also needed a big bat in the outfield, with Byrnes struggling and getting injured. They were supposed to add a good hitter too, but didn't.

Edit: to the person who asked why the Dodgers were considered losers, I agree. How is a team considered a loser if they got the big bat they needed? They got Casey Blake to fill in for Dewitt at third base, and they got Manny Ramirez to fill in for Juan Pierre (who will probably replace Andruw Jones in center). Besides the Angels and the Red Sox, I think they're the biggest winners.

  4. Winners: Boston, Atlanta, Cubs, Reds, Pirates

    Losers: Angels, White Sox, Dodgers

  5. EVERYBODY LOST A DECENT PLAYER

  6. Winners: the Yankees for getting two of the best players available while taking minor damage to their farm system. the Pirates are winners too for getting 3 major league ready players and another good prospect. the Dodgers are also winners for getting Manny, who is unquestionably one of the best hitters in the game, and brings a new presence to the plate that LA's young hitters can learn from

Losers: the Red Sox because even though they got a solid player in Jason Bay, you just cant replace Manny; and they gave up too much to get Bay. the Mets are also losers for not doing squat when they having glaring needs in the bullpen and the corner outfield spots

Another winner in my book is the Rays, for having confidence in their young team and believing that their strong crop of young talent can win them a playoff spot

  7. yakees cameout doing the best, pirates second best and red sox 3rd best, picking up Xavier Nady and pudge was a great deal, and the pirates got ALOT of young talent. and the red sox got rid of manny, who was a bad influence to the young guys on our team.

  8. Winners: Brewers, Boston, Braves, Pirates, Cubs, Yankees, Reds

Losers: As, Tigers, Angels, White Sox, Dodgers

  9. Winners:

Yankees, Pirates, Angels (Yanks and Angels filled their current needs and the Pirates picked up a total of 8 prospects through 2 trades!!)

    Losers:

Boston (lose Manny's swag and attitude but paying 7 Mill to the LAD AND lost 2 prospects), Mets (needed OF and bullpen help and were quiet), ChiSox (is Griffey really going to play CF for them,?!?)

Smart Pat teams (teams that couldve been dealers but smartly didnt)

    Nationals, Blue Jays, Orioles

  10. I'm not quite sure why everyone thinks the Tigers lost out on this one.  Sure, they didn't get a top-notch reliever in Farnsworth, but they acquired an extra arm to supplement their depleted bullpen.  To be honest, the Tigers were throwing away money on Pudge Rodriguez.  $19 million dollars tied up in catching is too much money.  Brandon Inge is a steal as a catcher.  He is just as good as the aging Pudge behind the plate and he's got more power and is better with runners in scoring position.  On paper it's not an equal trade, but it's what the Tigers needed.

  11. why are yall retards saying the dodgers are losers, wait i bet i no, somebody read another persons post and decided to copy it, if you said the dodgers are losers your stupid cuz we needed a big bat and we got one and who cares about his attitude and the only person we lost was laroche and we dont even have to pay his salary

  12. In addition to what everyone else has said:

Add the Mariners to the losers - Had a great chance to dump a ton of payroll (Washburn, Ibanez) and begin to rebuild earlier than expected, but didn't pull the trigger or demanded too much in return.

  13. Winners: Angels, Red Sox and Yankees.

    Losers:

Braves: They traded Mark Teixeira for nothing.

White Sox: Ken Griffey Jr is already finished.

Tigers: Letting go Pudge and receiving Kyle Farnsworth? Are you nuts?

Marlins: They were just spectators of the market.
