the worst airline in the world is alitalia.

they consistently do not make a profit, are on the verge of being handed over completley to the italian government, are consistently late, have rude flight attendants and also frequently have union strikes. I once flew with them from new york to rome, worst flight I have ever taken in my entire life. Soggy disgusting rubber chicken was served to me by an non smiling flight attendant who couldn't care less about us. she appeared twice on the whole 8 hour flight, and never smiled, never asked if we were thirsty, nothing. I almost went right up to the counter and asked for my money back

A close second is aerolinas argentinas, as they too are reputed to have terrible service and are also consistently losing money and facing gov't control, although alitalia has been rated the worst.
