Kohoutec was a comet that came by earth in 1973. It was supposed to be a comet of such magnificent brilliance, rivalling halley's comet of 1910.

Kohutek (or Kohutec)

The name of a comet that came by earth in 1973-74. It was billed as the comet of the century...lots of hype, etc, but ended up not being very impressive.

It's also the name of a song by Journey and the name of an indie rock band in Devon England. There was also a US hurdler (i think it was hurdles...maybe just track) by the name of Kohutec (Arthur).

It is Polish in origin  but without a first name that is all I can tell you...
