Who will Be United’s One ‘Big' Signing?
Manchester United’s chief executive, David Gill has publicly announced that he will be providing Alex Ferguson with money to sign at least one big name player before the transfer window closed. He insisted that money would not be a problem as long as the player being brought in was top notch.
Manchester United have already spent around twenty million pounds by signing, Hernandez and Smalling. Neither one of those players is the big name signing that they were expecting Ferguson to make, he has however promised the fans that they need not be disappointed as yet as there is still plenty of time to sign another player before August thirty first. Here is a potential look at some of the big names that could be making the move to United this season.
The first and most obvious name that comes to mind is that of, Mesut Ozil. Ferguson has been a long time admirer of the player and has admiration for the player has only grown after the completion of the tournament. The twenty one year old is currently employed at Werder Bremen who have agreed to let the player go for as low as thirteen million pounds. Ozil could be brought in to replace Scholes who is nearing his retirement. Ozil could also offer extra pace and trickery in the United midfield which had been absent ever since Ronaldo left for Madrid.
Wesley Sneijder would be the dream player for any United fan to see playing in Old Trafford this coming season. The player has had phenomenal success with Inter Milan and has had more than a decent run in at the World Cup 2010. Sneijder would also be a direct replacement for Scholes only he is much younger, faster and possesses better dead ball deliveries than Scholes. Also the fact that he is equally as good with either one of his feet makes him the ideal midfielder for any team to posses. He has already committed his future to Inter Milan but for the right price they could just let the player go. He would cost United a minimum of around twenty to twenty five million pounds but he would also be worth the investment.
United are clearly in need of a world class striker to partner Rooney in front of goal. They did manage to bring in Hernandez but he doesn’t quite have the experience that is required at the current moment. The two players that Ferguson would be considering to bring to Old Trafford are those of , Karim Benzema and Klass Jan Huntelaar. Both the players have fallen out of favour at their current clubs, which are Real Madrid and AC Milan and both the players are capable of playing at the highest quality. They would both be able to contribute tremendously to United if they do manage to join them.
Van Der Saar is nearing his retirement as well and most fans are expecting a replacement for the player to come in sooner rather than later. The best option that United have is to bring in another Dutch player to replace the Dutch number one, that player is Maarten Stekelenburg. He has been on top form for Ajax and the Dutch national team and would be a great addition to the already amazing Manchester United squad.
