  1. Whoever is the most popular at the time he is ready to fight so they can market it big time and sell tickets.

  2. That my friend is an excellent question!  With all of the upsets and losses at light heavyweight a few candidates are shining through.  Here are my thoughts...

    1.  First on the list would probably be Lyoto Machida.  Lyoto is very deserving of a title bout with his undeafeted record, but Lyoto/Forrest  may not happen because of this guy...

    2.  Thiago Silva.  Also undefeated at 205 lbs.  and an extremely tough match for anyone to take.

And here is where we have to ponder the Dana White factor of  fighter popularity.  Both Lyoto and Thiago are from Brazil and Dana ALWAYS has at least one American fighter in a UFC title belt (more pay per view dollars--I don't neccessarily agree with this line of thinking, but that's his track record.)  I am thinking Dana will have Lyoto fight Thiago and the winner will take on Forrest for a title shot.

    3.  I just thought of this one too, if The Spider wins his fight at 205 lbs. against Irvin, you may see Anderson Silva fighting for his second belt against Forrest in Light Heavyweight.  If Silva could pull of two belts at the same time, his claim of world's best pound for pound fighter would really gain attention.  Even Fedor hasn't done this yet.

Personally I would love to see Lyoto/Thiago fight first anyway because of how these two match up--styles make fights--and have the winner face a well rested Forrest.
