Who will be 2013 star performer? (Part 1)
With the 2012 season done and dusted, people are already turning their attention to the 2013 season.
This year has been very phenomenal because many big records have tumbled. Some young golfers have made their mark on the biggest of stages, and most amazingly, we saw Europe retaining their Ryder Cup trophy in a very dramatic fashion.
It has been a phenomenal year for European golfers. Rory McIlroy finished the season as the top-ranked golfer in the world, followed by Luke Donald.
The year ended with Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Tiger Woods and Justin Rose as top-ranked golfers respectively.
Next year promises are likely to be good for the Europeans once again. Rory McIlroy is playing the best golf of his career, as he recently signed a multi-million deal with his sponsor. Moreover, his off-course life is also very settled.
With the way Rory is playing these days, he is sure to win at least one major next year. He won four titles this year, including the PGA Championship and he will be looking to, at least, repeat this year’s performance.
What would be in his mind is certainly a Grand Slam, winning all four majors. With an average 69.63, the world number one will be one of the favourites to win the Green jacket this time.
On the other hand, Luke Donald did not have the best of the seasons but he is still considered a threat in the world of golf. The former top-ranked player started this year with high hopes, but lost his ground midway.
Donald has been in the mix of things at every other tournament but in the majors his performances have not been up to the standard.
People consider him as one of the best players who have yet to win a major, and it is this tag that he will most certainly remove next year.
The Englishman plays very consistent golf but he lacks the final kill. If he can improve on this, then surely he will win more tournaments next year.
Donald has reached that time of his career where, if he does not do well, his career could fade away. However, the world number two is able to prove his mettle at the right time.
This year, Luke showed a decent performance at the Open Championship. Next year, he will be looking to go a few steps further and win the Claret Jug.
Another Englishman, Justin Rose, has had a terrific season. Rose has been nothing short of a majestic this season.
Not only has he been consistent, but he has been putting up some extremely decent performances. He has one tour title to his name, apart from his T3 finish in the PGA Championship.
Rose was second in the Race to Dubai standings, and that must have given him a huge mental boost. Justin’s second-place finish at the DP World Tour Championship, especially in the manner in which he played, was just marvellous.
It shows that he has the skills and character to win more tournaments, and he surely will make it happen next year.
