Question:

Who will be dropped?

Considering the set up of the current side, where Katich (except for his fielding! lol) and Jaques have both done well for themselves as an opening combination in the latest test series, and that fact the Matthew Hayden is sure to return to the side, i want to know who do you think will be dropped to make way for Haydos?

Jaques was Haydens partner, the position was his, and hes now showed he can make runs with and without Hayden at the other end, and Katich was only coming in cos of injury, failed in the first test, then racked up back to back hundreds!

consider that there is no doubt Hayden will be back in the team, who will make way for him? does Jaques have the inside running cos was opening before, or has Katich done enough to win Jaques spot? or at an extreme left field call, could Hayden possibly retire and end the argument?! i for one hope not, but please people, what are your opinions?

  1. katch has to wait

  2. Jaques should  retain his place~

    may be Matty would retire soon for this controversy

  3. It's a nice selection headache for the Australian selectors. There are several possibilities:

    1) Hayden retires. Not a popular move amongst Australian fans, but he may feel that his time has come, and he can't stand in the way of younger players;

    2) Katich is dropped. He was, after all, only the stand-in. The selectors thank him for his efforts, tell him he is now the number one reserve, and are confident they have a quality back up batsman;

    3) They pick seven specialist batsman, and don't pick a spinner, instead relying on Clarke, Symonds and Katich to fill that department;

    4) Hayden is told he will have to oust one of the current encumbents if he wants to regain his place in the side. So he will only get back in if he is playing better than one of the others.

    What a great problem to have!

  4. I would hope Katich, but I have this awful fear that Haydos is about to be made redundant. Just think back to Gilly & McGill's last few weeks before their 'sudden' decision to retire?

  5. Gee i dont want no-one to be dropped...

    I would like to see Haydo's and Jaques make a great partnership together but my heart is with Katich..

    He has over come a lot to get a place in the team..

    I am still trying to warm to the Hayden,Jaques combination...

    Last year they tried Chris Rogers as opener,that did'nt go to well so i think they will proberly stick with Hayden and Jaques as openers..

    As far as leaving someone out of the team?.Who knows mate..

    No-Banish you're thoughts on Haydo's retiring,not yet i still think he has a good 2-3 years of International cricket in him yet...

  6. Its a good question, and a problem i wish England had.

    Katich is in the form of his life, he made consecutive 100's vs the West Indies. Jaques hasnt been in the best form with the bat (he didnt have the best series vs India) BUT he's done okay vs the Windies. There is NO chance i would ever drop Hayden, and i do think he has a couple of years left in him yet (he's been playing his best cricket over the last couple of years).

    The next tour is in India, where Hayden made a mountain of runs last time out, so he will play and he will probably make a lot of runs on the tour again!! (he is just a class player). Now its a straight battle between Jaques and Katich, well Jaques struggled vs India last year, and he has never toured the sub-continent before!, Katich has had a few year experience of touring and India dont have any psychological edge over him. So by going on these facts, i would choose Katich over Jaques.

    BUT of course, take them both and see how they do in the warm-ups! if one of them is performing superbly then play him! if not i would play Katich.

    Is there going to be a place for Shaun Marsh on the tour of India, seeing as he did so well in the IPL!

  7. Jaques will retain his place as opener and he will open with Hayden when he comes back.

  8. Katich
