  1. Tough call. I think the ball is in Federer's court. If he gets his act together, he should remain #1.

Ironic that there was all this talk about Nadal taking over the #1 from Federer by Wimbledon, now there is a distinct possibility that he might lose #2 in less than a week.

I'll go with the safe bet and say Federer.

  2. Roger will be #1 and he will begin to demolish the competition one by one.  Djokovic and Nadal will crumble.

  3. It's really between Rafa and Roger. I think this question will be determined by the results of the next two grand slams, if any upsets can be made, or if one can dethrone the other. Nole is a rising star and cannot be counted out, but i think he is  probably going to take that spot in a year ('09) or two.

  4. NOVAK DJOKOVIC!!

  5. i  stick with Roger Federer.

  6. FEDERER.

  7. Either Roger or Rafa. Roger is on top of the rankings with Wimbledon and New York coming yet. Rafa is the tenacious competitor out to claim the top ranking and prove he deserves it. Nole is the opposite.

  8. RAFA NADAL ;)

  9. roger

  10. ROGER FEDERER will stay number 1 until he retires.  I agree with sunnyde that FED just needs to win big a couple times and go far into a tournament and he will be fine.

  11. Anything can happen. Roger Federer has a high chance of losing his No. 1 spot this year since a lot of younger players are dominating right now. Rafael Nadal still have a lot of points behind Roger, he had a chance to steal it months ago though. But since Nadal wasn't successful catching Federer, Novak Djokovic is catching up at Nadal instead. Novak now has less than 400 points behind Nadal. Federer had less points to defend in his clay court season this year, that's why he keeps on earning points that, let's say, doesn't deserve much comparing to his performance so far.

I'd say, from the player's performance right now, Nadal has the highest chance of stealing Federer's spot, or Novak may steal Nadal's spot first. But anything can happen at the end of the year. It's hard to judge since this is still the very beginning of the year.

  12. rafa will go down at no.3 first and from there he will emerge as no.1, in womens its serena williams

  13. rafael nadal!

  14. andy roddick (in my dreams, hehe)

  15. The one and only Roger Federer, who has been no.1, is no.1 and will be no.1. All he needs to do is reach the semifinals and finals of every event and win a couple of big ones and he will be good. Go Rogi !

  16. Djokovic is only 310 points behind Nadal to overtake the #2 at this point before Hamburg.  After the French Open, Federer has so many points to defend since he's won Wimby, the US Open, the year end Master's Championship and almost everything in between.  If Federer continues to play like he has the first 1/2 of this year, Djokovic or Nadal CAN take the #1 spot.  Should be an interesting second half of the year!

  17. Djokovic.

as much as i love rafa =]

  18. Roger Federer

  19. Novak Djokovic.  If his rapid rise to the Top 3 is any indication, then he will be #1 by year's end.  He can gain a ton of points at the year-end Masters Cup in November because he has none to defend from last year, where unfortunately he picked up zero points for not winning any matches in the round-robin.  Even if he only reaches the semis there, he will gain a ton of points no matter how Nadal or Federer do there.
