Either Sergei Federov, or Alexander Ovechkin.

I imagine Kovalchuk will get there before Ovechkin, so long as he plays long enough... no injuries or early retirement.

Federov is close, but he will collapse at the finish, and retire that season, having only 11 goals last season, and needing another 28 for 500. He's going to struggle for that marker.

Not for nothing but i'm gonna bet my money on either Sergei Federov or Alexander Ovechkin.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Sergei Federov.  He is 38 and I think he has two seasons left in him. He is at 472 goals right now.  If he doesn't make it for two seasons, then it will be Ilya Kovalchuk.  He will make it to 500 before Ovechkin.  Kovalchuk has 254 goals and Ovechkin has 163 They both score over 50 goals, but the goal difference isn't much between them each year.  It will take awhile for Ovechkin to catch up to Kovalchuk if Kovalchuk stays healthy. Don't expect Ovechkin to get 65 goals every year.

Fedorov if he stays in Washington.  His career was in the tubes when he was on the Blue Jackets, but once he came to the Caps he was a machine.  He's only 28 goals away a very reachable feat in a season or two especially if he's playing along side Ovechkin.  Besides Fedorov Alex Ovechkin seems the obvious choice.

Its going to be Federov. He may have only had 11 goals last season, but he had 13 points in his 18 games with Washington. He is a much better fit in Washington's style of play and he should be able to get the 28 goals he needs to reach 500 in the next two seasons.
