good point captain ron. in making decisions, including the budget or even in rearing the kids, it should not always be determined by one's s*x or gender.

the gender doesn't announce what roles each person would be handling.

both of them could handle the finances, and both of them should decide for the family. two heads are better than one.

It depends on the people!

You can't determine who is most suited for a role simply by their s*x.  When I grew up, my mother handled the finances and budget.  In my household, I handle the finance and budget.  It's a matter of who takes more of an interest in it - it has nothing to do with s*x.

in our household, it's always my mom who handles the money... if it's my dad, I'll be having my BMW by now...

The wife...because she is the homemaker and knows what the household expenses are.  Besides most husbands (except for househusbands) don't know the ins and outs of running a household and  often, do not want to be disturbed by such menial tasks.  They would rather concentrate on earning money for the family and let the wives take care of budgeting the money.

Whoever earns the most.  Each should have a seperate account where they put their own money, and then a joint account where each puts in their part of the household expenses.

If both of them earn then it is good to share the bills.All the bills should be considered,small or big. If it is only husband or wife who is earning then it is difficult to say because men always want to handle the money even when the wife is earning. When they are earning them selves and wages are small it is the wife makes both ends meet. When salary increases, he takes control in his own hands.

The one who knows what the basic needs are for the family and other priorities.  A responsible wife or a responsible husband could qualify as family budget handler.  Or, husband and wife could share the responsibility by dividing the items in the priority list to be handled.

It seems to me that most opinions here are influenced by the past experience of the person making the answer. I dont think one is better than the other.... In my case, Ive been a single dad for several years and can certainly take care of my household finances, but this winter when I get married, I wouldnt mind my wife taking over the duties.

Financial matters need to be done by team work. In my family, since I pay the bills and do most of the shopping and handling of charitable donations, I hold the checkbooks and ATM cards. My husband attends to the big picture of investing and buying products like insurance, stocks, bonds and other instruments.
